Something everyone should experience, SXSW @ Austin, TX. boo ya.  Filled with music that was nearly overwhelming for any connoisseur.  This particular night I was anxious because I knew who the headline my buddy Drew Bergen and I were going to try catch.  Asher Roth is on the incline of his blowup. Ready for anything, we made our way.  The venue was outside but a smaller setting, you will be able to tell from the vid.   Anyways, it is uffking packed.  Drew looks at me, puts his head down and we start the daunting task of nonchalantly making our way to front center stage.  Fast forward twenty minutes and we are half way there…another fifteen and we dodged some drunk aggressive dancing crowd.  Thus navigation comes to optimum viewing, or I should say best I could get or was willing to grab. finally I am satisfied.  I stood there battling with my arm up in the air for the entire set, no joke, I have a witness.  Actually two, and you will see why after these vids.

I dragged him down afterwards for a few words of inspiration for the cats at IPR

I hate to beat a dead horse but here it is.  My final Project for DC 200,  Sleepless nights and sleep-full days during the two week period of this particular project.  I did it for FREE! And they said they liked it but… Not a problem to me but if we have a contract to do this much work… anything after that I will need compensation…they ran home.  So it becomes a staple in my reel, I will admit it is very boring, enjoy once or twice pass it off to a friend or don’t. Gopher Protocol

TCP/IP Application designed for distributing, searching and receiving documents over the Internet.  The text menu interface is ideal to computing environments that rely on remote computer terminals.  Most commonly used among universities around 1991 until 1993.

Release in late spring of 1991 with a few centralized goals of a file like hierarchy that would be familiar to users and can be created quickly and inexpensively.  The general interest of a Campus-Wide Information System of 1991 and the ease of the Gopher Protocol were arm and leg to the short success of the Gopher Protocol.

By the mid to late 1990’s we start o see a decline in the Gopher Protocol.  First and probably the biggest factor of why the Gopher Protocol failed was because of late 1993, the University of Minnesota announce it would be charging a license fee for the use of the Gopher Protocol.  The Gopher Protocol user functionality was quickly duplicated by other early web browsers (Mosaic) and soon made the Gopher Protocol less appealing.  Lastly, it has a non-flexible structure meaning every document has a defined format and type, typical users have to navigate via a single server defined menu system to reach document.

A copy of every known Gopher Client is permanently archived on the HAL3000 Gopher Server. Users may be freely downloaded from this HTTP link

Example

A standard Gopher Telnet session may appear as follows:

(teletype network is a network protocol used on the Internet or local area networks to provide a bidirectional interactive communications facility):

telnet quux.org 70
Trying 64.85.160.193…
Connected to quux.org.
Escape character is ‘^]’.

User established a TCP connection with server on Port 70

telnet quux.org 70

User then sends “/Reference” followed by return on keypad followed by a line break.  This is the Item Selector, which identifies which document to receive.

Asher Roth, in my opinion via Thedailykush.com is truly on top of viral marketing.  It is a forum type website that fans are able to log in to a profile page but also it acts as just a website.  Although I will say that’s to a first look the website is pretty cluttered.  There is a lot of stuff going on.  Roth has everything linked together, embedded twitter onto the site, also obtaining ability to add site to facebook, MySpace, etc.  He has a merchandise section where there are codes you can put into by giving up your email address for percent off insentive.  Also links to follow on twitter by clicking an icon displayed by FOLLOW ME.  The one other thing is that to navigate the website you have to login or create a username and password, and of course to do that means giving up your e-mail address.  He has a it almost tuned like a facebook where users can login in and surf the entire site.  You can add or remove friends, post blogs, pictures and video and even stream a chat withother members of the site.  I think that this is a sure fire way to keep people coming back to your site.  It keeps a sense of relation because you comit to the website by joining into their community.
